Joseph Mouaya
Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy
Joseph Mouaya is a native of French-speaking Congo (Brazzaville) and a recent United Nations refugee to the United States. His participation on the panel on “Rewriting French Cultural Myths” will treat changing images of France and French culture from an African perspective, as well as the ways in which colonialism influenced Franco-African myths.
The work of Francophone authors from Western Africa will be highlighted along with examples of the presenter’s own published creative writings considered by the panel from a socio-cultural-historical point of view. Innovative pedagogical approaches to presenting Franco-African culture in the university classroom, including original playwriting and visual performance, will also be addressed.
