Arizona State University provides aspiring composers an opportunity to learn their craft in a creative and supportive environment. ASU offers a Bachelors, Masters, and a DMA in Music Composition. The university's Visiting Composers Series brings in guest composers, performers, and speakers from around the world to increase students exposure to contemporary music. Annual new music concerts, composition studio recitals, and student performances provide the opportunity to display student compositions in a professional forum. The renowned composition faculty maintain active roles, both on campus and around the world, as educators, composers, performers, and conductors. College of Fine Arts also includes a School
of Art, Department of Theatre,
Department of Dance,
Art Museum, and Institute
for Studies in the Arts. You can get a good sense of the arts activities
at ASU by exploring these calendars: School of Music Buildings: Arizona State University is a relatively young university. The School of Music, like most of the university, is housed in modern buildings with interesting architecture. You can find photographs and descriptions of some on the School of Music facilities page. Computer Resources: ASU has excellent computer resources. Each student enrolled at ASU receives an email account and the server space to create a webpage, if they so desire. The School of Music has a exceptionally well-equipped electronic classroom with computers and electronic keyboards, and many students use this facility to produce their scores. If you are interested in electronic music you might want to learn more about the Electronic Music Research Studios. ASU is also home to the Institute for Studies in the Arts, a facility for exploring multimedia works and recent technological developments. The ASU Composition Faculty all use computers to notate their scores. Applications used include Finale, Sibelius, Mosaic, and Score. Between the students and faculty there is a wealth of knowledge about using the computer to notate and record music. |
