Latino men and women who had a BMI greater than 30 were more likely to have gallbladder disease - National Health and Nutrition Survey (1999)

Research shows that children with a BMI greater than or equal to 23.7 in kindergarten had a 91% chance of being obese in the fifth grade.

You can test your health by taking a simple test that measures your body mass index

Body Mass Index: Body Mass Index (Your BMI) uses your height and weight to estimate your percentage of body fat. You can go to http://www.mayoclinic.com to test your health or you can do the test yourself. Here is the formula.

BMI calculator

Enter in height and weight: BMI Calculator

You can also use the BMI chart :

With pounds (lbs) and inches, use the following table to calculate the BMI. Find the appropriate height in the left-hand column. Move across the row to the given weight. The number at the top of the column is the BMI for that height and weight.

The BMI system is not a perfect guide. Other factors to consider when using this BMI test is that it is not able to measure your bone or muscle mass and cannot accurately measure extra abdominal mass.
