Valley of Oaxaca and Oaxaca city, Mexico (JANUARY 3 – 11, 2007)
The Valley of Oaxaca in southwestern Mexico is filled with crafts villages, regal ruined cities, and indigenous culture. This Valley is the heartland of Mexico’s indigenous Zapotec people and a place where villages famed for weaving and woodcarving thrive. Teotitlan del Valle, “Place of the Gods” in Nahuatl, is home to renowned Zapotec weavers famed for their beautiful woven wool carpets. Monte Alban, where a majestic city stood for over 1000 years, is one of Mesoamerica’s most regal and spectacular ruined cities. Many experts believe it to have been America’s earliest metropolis. Oaxaca de Juarez, the capital city of the state of Oaxaca, is one of Mexico’s most enjoyable post-colonial cities.
