Working Notes, Jane Underwood:

I've always been more interested in capturing energy than thought--the energy behind thought. These poems come up from times when I've looked to arbitrary words on pages and allowed them to leap out at me in small phrases, combining themselves in answer to my unspoken questions of that moment. If a phrase feels right or compelling, I take it without regard for proper syntax or grammar. If I stop to think, then I falter, fall off the wave, lose faith in the leap I've taken.
