Dale Going won the San Francisco State University Poetry Chapbook Competition with her book of poems, As/Of The Whole, in which this selection appears. She lives in Mill Valley, California. Working Notes, Dale Going: Unintentionally, inevitably, (I find myself) quoting. Writer as reader as active, collaborative, illustrative. To condense and extend. As readers, my brothers skipped romance, I skipped adventure. I, Zibalbay is the novel I write when I read. Thanks/credits to H. Ryder Haggard, a Shakespearian Todd Rundgren, an anonymous Russian (proverbs are uncredited quotations), Webster's Third, and Patricia Rozema, who quotes Eliot for the title of her feminist film, I Have Heard the Mermaids Singing. go to This Is Your Doing, Woman!
