“Reading Carla Harryman”: Author Biographies

 

 


 

Carla Billitteri is Associate Professor at the University of Maine, where she teaches poetry, poetics and critical theory. She is the author of Language and the Renewal of Society in Walt Whitman, Laura (Riding) Jackson, and Charles Olson: The American Cratylus (Palgrave 2009). Her work on modernist and contemporary American poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Aerial, Arizona Quarterly, Gravesiana, The Journal of Modern Literature, Paideuma, and Textual Practice. She is also active as a translator of contemporary Italian poetry, with work in Aufgabe, Boundary2, How2, and Fascicle. Hooke Press has recently published her translations from Alda Merini’s aphorisms, I am a Furious Little Bee.

Jill Darling is the author of two books of poetry: begin with may: a series of moments (Finishing Line Press) and Solve For (BlazeVOX), and she has published poems and creative essays in journals including Aufgabe, Bombay Gin, Quarter After Eight, /NOR, Factorial, Upstairs at Duroc, and in the anthology Poetic Voices Without Borders. She has an MFA in creative writing from Colorado State University and currently is working toward a Ph.D. at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.

Renee Gladman is the author of five books, most recently Newcomer Can't Swim, prose installations published by Kelsey St. Press in 2007, and a soon-to-be-released work on memoir, Toaf, from the Atelos project. Gladman is editor and publisher of Leon Works, an independent press for experimental prose and other thought projects based in the sentence, and she teaches fiction in the Program in Literary Arts at Brown University. She lives in Jamaica Plain, NY.

Laura Hintonhttp://www.chantdelasirene.com/ – the author of The Perverse Gaze of Sympathy: Sadomasochistic Sentiments from Clarissa to Rescue 911 (SUNY Press 1999), and co-editor of We Who Love to Be Astonished: Experimental Women’s Writing and Performance Poetics (University of Alabama Press 2001). She has published essays, interviews, and reviews on feminist theory, postmodern literature, and film, as well as poetry. Currently she is working on a book about visuality in women’s hybrid poetics. The Carla Harryman section is her third editorial section for How2. Hinton is a Professor of English at the City College of New York (CUNY). She lives in New York, NY.

Christine Hume is the author of Musca Domestica (Beacon Press, 2000), Alaskaphrenia (New Issues, 2004) and Lullaby: Speculations on the First Active Sense (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2008). Her critical essays and reviews have appeared in such journals as Contemporary Literature, Chicago Review, Constant Critic, Lyric, Afgabe, Context, Rain Taxi, and Verse. She is an associate professor and the coordinator of Creative Writing at Eastern Michigan University. She lives in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Austin Publicover is a noise artist who has performed at Bowery Poetry Club in NYC, ISSUE Project Room and Safe-T Gallery in Brooklyn. His sound art has been shown at Haven Arts Gallery in the Bronx. He has audio pieces published online in Mad Hatters Review, in textsound.org, and ongoing collaborations with Joanna Fuhrman, Wanda Phipps, Brenda Iijima, and Amy Marie Bucciferro.
