Historia plantarum: earum imagines, qualitates & natale solum.
Quibus accessere Simplicium medicamentoru facultates, secundum locos & genera ex Dioscoride. Lugduni: Apud Gabrielem Coterium, 1561. Compiled by Antoine Du Pinet from the work of Mattioli and others. First edition--Cf. Hunt 85. References: Hunt 85; Johnston, S. H. Cleveland coll. 87. ASU copy lacks Simplicium medicamentoru facultates (p. 1-229, second group).
This is one of the first pocket herbals, and it has a woodcut illustration and brief information on each plant. Each page is devoted to one specific plant, and along with the illustration, the information includes the common name in five languages, where the plant is located and its "qualities" are given. It is actually a condensed version of the works of Mattioli and others, and whenever possible, Du Pinet includes his sources for location and/or properties. He may state for example "Locus ex Fuchsio" and "Qualitiates ex Matthiolo."
Subjects: Botany--Pre-Linnean works.
