Samuel P. Goddard Papers

Politics in Arizona

Epilogue

Even after Goddard stepped out of the political spotlight, friends and political associates continue to recognize him for his contributions to the state of Arizona during a time of tremendous growth and change. Goddard's desire to listen to people's concerns and improve the lives of Arizona residents led him to serve in various public positions for over four decades. In January of 2003, Sam Goddard watched as his son Terry Goddard, two-time mayor of Phoenix, was sworn in as the 24th attorney general of Arizona. Terry took the oath on the same 122-year-old Bible that Sam Goddard used when he was sworn in as governor in 1965. In his father's footsteps, Terry Goddard continued the Goddard name in public service to the state of Arizona.
