As governor and chair of the Arizona Democratic Committee, Goddard also became involved in national politics. He was elected a delegate to the Democratic National Convention five times from the 1960s through the 1980s. He also served as a member of the Charter Commission Drafting Committee of the Democratic National Committee from 1972 to 1975.
