Executive Director, CONAHEC
(Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration)
The opening of the economy derived from the implementation of NAFTA has been the impetus for a growing concern and interest among higher education institutions in Mexico, and the United States, in undertaking international collaborative efforts. These efforts have, at times, been limited due to the fact that important philosophical, historic, and structural differences, as well as the acute asymmetries between Mexico's national higher education system and those of the U.S., often have gone unrecognized. His presentation will address those differences and asymmetries, as well as the challenges and opportunities, that come with regional cooperation across national boundaries.
Mr. Marmolejo serves as director of the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC) at the University of Arizona. He holds an MBA from Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosí and has conducted doctoral work at UNAM. He has taught at several universities in Mexico and was formerly vice president for administration & finance and vice president for academic affairs at the Universidad de las Americas in Mexico City. He's also been a consultant for several Mexican and South American universities and Mexico's Ministry of Education on issues related to administration and international initiatives.
