Interoperable Medical Records
More and more, modern patient care delivery, medical education and biomedical research rely on the availability of current and prior electronic health records. While the preservation of digital medical records is necessary it is not by itself sufficient to meet the needs of the above triad. Without interoperability information - and hence knowledge - remains trapped in vertical disconnected silos. A critical role of the emerging biomedical informatics field is to catalyze the interoperability of data stores to maximize the patient care, educational, and research value of stored medical information.
