Most people out there are totally unaware of the importance of the header information, or metadata, and what that means as far as verifying the authenticity of an electronic record. When asked, "If you store a message electronically outside of your email program, does the header information stay with it?" we are not surprised, then, that 76% of our interviewees said "no." I guess what is surprising is that 22% actually said "yes."
