C.W. Goldsmith, Ph.D. is Associate Vice Chancellor and CIO for the University of Texas System. He was formerly Vice President for Information Technology, University of Alabama at Birmingham and also Deputy Director of Academic Computing and Instructional Services at the University of Texas at Austin. Goldsmith was the Vice President of Technology for Advanced Software Technologies, Inc. In El Segundo, California. He spent 13 years at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as Director of Computing Resources and Executive Director of Information Technology with responsibility for academic and administrative computing as well as telecommunications.

Goldsmith has extensive experience in private industry and with academic facilities, including service as a faculty member. He was the program chair of EDUCOM’98 and was UT Austin’s CAUSE representative. He served on a number of UT System information technology committees, as well as numerous campus committees. He has co-authored articles, made presentations, and given lectures on policy issues in information technology, including the privacy of student information. He serves as co-chair of an EDUCAUSE working group on trust infrastructures in higher education.
