OK, this really is too funny to be true, but it is! MRI has been used, in the name of research no less, to obtain internal images of the human sex act!
In a paper in the British Medical Journal, vol. 319, 1999, pp 1596-1600, Willibrord Weijmar Schultz, Pek van Andel, Eduard Mooyaart and Ida Sabelis published a paper entitled, "Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Male and Female Genitals During Coitus and Female Sexual Arousal." If you are using a computer with an ASU IP address, you should be able to click on the title and bring up the paper directly.
And where do these dedicated researchers hail from? The NETHERLANDS of course, this wacky Dutch people!
For me, one of the funniest bits was the fact that most of the men were incapable of "performing" inside the magnet unless they used Viagra!
And where exactly did I find this little gem of a paper? At the web site of the IgNobel Prize Society. These people scour the scientific literature for the unusual, the laughable and generally wierd science.
