Michael Goodchild is a global leader in geographic information science, whose research interests center on geographic information science, spatial analysis and uncertainty in geographic data. He is Emeritus Professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he directed the National Center for Geographic Information Analysis, the Center for Spatially Integrated Social Science, and the Center for Spatial Studies. At ASU, he is the director of the Spatial Analysis Research Center (SPARC). His part-time appointment focuses on strategic spatial science initiatives and mentoring faculty and graduate students. Goodchild is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences (2002) and Foreign Member of the Royal Society of Canada, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and is a Foreign Member of the Royal Society and Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy. In 2007 he received the Prix Vautrin Lud, considered the highest honor in the field of geography.
