Native American Summer Institute

General Information

Program Purpose and Design

The Native American Summer Institute at ASU was established to increase the enrollment and graduation rates of Native American students by introducing them to campus services and programs. NASI provides 50 Native American students with an intense four-day residential orientation that includes:

  • Culturally specific workshops and presentations
  • One-on-one meetings with academic advisors, faculty, and staff
  • Class registration and advisement
  • Leadership development and academic and social integration and involvement

NASI is the only orientation at ASU specifically designed for Native American students.  For the past 12 years, we have successfully served over 700 students through leadership training in social, cultural, and academic activities. NASI has proven to be effective in increasing student participation in Native American programs, clubs, and organizations, which are vital in student retention.
