This exhibit was developed from the University Archives of Arizona State University Libraries. It features the documents, notebooks, images, specimens, and equipment of ASU researchers including Dr. Herb Stahnke of the Department of Biology, Dr. Carleton Moore and H. H. Nininger of the Center for Meteorite Studies, Dr. Charles Woolf of the Zoology Department, Dr. LeRoy Eyring of the Eyring Center for Solid State Science, and Dr. Troy Péwé of the Department of Geology. Read more... Herberger reaches out to aspiring artists Spring 2008 registration begins Dec. 1 for Herberger College at Large & Herberger College for Kids. Herberger College at Large & for Kids is part of ASU Herberger College of the Arts. The program offers classes for aspiring artists, from serious high school arts students to adults, and children ranging in age from preschool to teenagers. Aspiring artists of all ages are encouraged to express themselves through classes in art, digital art, dance, music and theater. ASU employees and their family members receive class discounts. Lowriders: 8th Annual Día de los Muertos Festival Exhibit For the past eight years, the Arizona State University Museum of Anthropology has hosted an annual Día de Los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) Festival Exhibit. This year’s exhibit will be themed around lowriders As icons of Mexican American culture, lowriders, or automobiles engineered to ride close to the ground, have increasingly become part of the contemporary visual landscape that characterizes Chicano communities. Artists are encouraged to merge formal elements, imagery, and literally ‘parts’ of these popular icons with traditional Día de los Muertos offerings, creating highly inventive altarpieces that reflect a broad array of individual styles, personal meanings and socially shared concerns. Hedgpeth Hills Winter Festival The Deer Valley Rock Art Center, a museum and archaeological site located in northwest Phoenix, is pleased to invite you to its 3rd annual Hedgpeth Hills Winter Festival.
On Target Family Fun Day, there will be more free hands-on activities, free performances and Eight, Arizona PBS, brings "Arthur" for photos with children. A children’s music-themed literacy workshop is presented, and each child receives a free book. Read more...
The Museums, Galleries and Collections committee are hosting their first ever Museum Discovery Program for Kids! The week long event is part of the Quest Discovery programs available to children registered for the ASU Kids Camp, offered by the Student Recreation Complex, in Tempe, Arizona. The Museum Discovery program, which takes place June 18 - 21, will give children the opportunity to learn about Mars, space photography, astronomy, meteorites, anthropology, and fine arts. Each day the children will get to visit one to two outreach locations, and will participate in hands-on activities related to each subject. Currently, the program is only open to children registered for the Kids Camp. ASU's Kids Camp is open to public, but requires a membership to the ASU Alumni Association and the SRC (fees apply). Space Photography Lab Open House You and your students (and families) are cordially invited to participate in the NASA Space Photography Laboratory (SPL) Open House in conjunction with Earth and Space Exploration Day at Arizona State University on Saturday October 28th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Arizona State University’s Bateman Physical Sciences Building (F-wing). Our Open House will include: displays of the latest images from the Mars Exploration Rovers (MER) Spirit and Opportunity (currently in operation on the surface of Mars); the latest images from ESA’s Mars Express; large panoramas of the surface of Mars; demonstrations of recent web-based activities; video presentations; and a raffle to win prizes for your school. Educational packets that include teacher resources will be available to educators as long as supplies last. The Astronomy Open House, sponsored by School of Earth and Space Exploration and the Department of Physics, is October 27 from 8 - 10 PM.
