Books owned by ASU Libraries
Items with shelf status
- The majority of items are available for pickup at the Circulation Desk within 3 working days.
- Tempe Campus Book Pull Service will pull up to five items per day from eligible collections at Hayden, Noble, Music, and/or Architecture Libraries.
- Downtown, Polytechnic, West and Law Libraries also pull from their collections for pickup at their location.
Items that are checked out
- Most items from the general stacks collection with a status of "Due mm/dd/yyyy" may be recalled.
- An item recalled from the current borrower could take up to 15 days to receive.
- Not all checked out items qualify for recall.

Videos/DVDs owned by ASU Libraries
Videos eligible for requesting
- Videos currently checked out
- Videos with a "SHELF" status on a different campus (Downtown, Polytechnic, Tempe, West) than the requested campus for pickup.
- ASU faculty, students and staff who need a video or DVD on a specific date in the future should use Media Booking.
Restrictions on video requests
- Videos with a "SHELF" status at the Tempe campus location for pickup at the Tempe campus may not be requested online.
- Videos are not eligible for Library Express delivery.
- Media Bookings will take precedence over other requests and may delay fulfilling requests made online.
How to request materials owned by ASU Libraries:
- Go to the libraries home page: http://library.lib.asu.edu/.
- Enter the Online Catalog and conduct your search.
- Click on the entry you wish to request.
- Find and display the complete record for the title.
- Click the
button which is displayed at the top and bottom of your screen.
- Choose a library pick-up location from the drop-down menu (Library Express option is for Tempe Only) and click the
button.
- If there are multiple entries for a single title, mark the one you want and click "REQUEST SELECTED ITEM".
- The message "Your request for [TITLE] was successful." verifies that your request was sent.
- The book you request will be pulled from the shelf and taken to the Circulation Desk of the Library you selected.
Note: The
button will not display if the item cannot currently be requested. Check with the Circulation Desk for additional information on these items.
How will I be notified?
- By e-mail if your library record includes your e-mail address.
- By campus mail if your library record does not include your e-mail address and you work for ASU.
- By US mail if you library record does not include your e-mail address and you do not work for ASU.
- Online: Track status of requested item. Items that have arrived will have a status of "Ready. Must pickup by mm/dd/yyyy".
- Items that are not picked up by the date noted are returned to the shelves of the owning library.
Journal Articles owned by ASU Libraries
ASU Affiliates request articles from another campus library by using the Interlibrary Loan Service - ILLiad form.
ASU Faculty request articles from any location using the Interlibrary Loan Service - ILLiad form.
How to use it:
- Search available sources for your title/citation.
- If your campus library owns the item in paper or fiche - pull and copy the article yourself.
- If your campus library does not own it, but it is available through another ASU Library in paper or fiche you should:
- Documents are posted to your ILLiad account in PDF format.
- You are notified by e-mail when they are ready.
- Track and retrieve requests from the Review Requests section after logging in
- Requests for items that are owned at your campus library will be canceled and you will be notified via e-mail from ILLiad.
- If further investigation shows the item you seek is missing from your campus library collection re-submit to ILLiad and include a comment that campus library copy is missing.
Items from Storage
- To request materials housed in Storage, click the "Request" button on at the top of the catalog information screen if the volume you need is listed on the record.
Note: If the volume is not listed, please contact Circulation at 480-965-3605, and a request will be made for you. Normal delivery time is 1-2 business days.
- West Storage items are not requestable, contact ASU West at 602-543-8520 for assistance.
- ASU Affiliates (Students, Faculty, and Staff) may request articles from journals held in Storage through Interlibrary Loan (complete citation information is required). Articles will be scanned and delivered electronically.
- Non ASU affiliates should contact Circulation at 480-965-3605 to have the volume delivered.

Items not owned by ASU
Interlibrary Loan
This service is limited to ASU faculty, students and staff.
Items that are not owned by any of the ASU Libraries can be obtained from other sources through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Avoid unnecessary delays in getting your materials - search the ASU Libraries Catalog first.
- Use ILLiad to submit your ILL requests. First time users will need to create an account. Notifications are sent by email when the item(s) requested are available.
