Date Due

There is no limit to the number of books ASU students, faculty or staff may check out. Materials from specialized collections such as videos, microforms and/or reserve may have limits. At the time of loan, the borrower will be notified of the due date for each item. The borrower is responsible for meeting the due date. Certain items, e.g., reserve, media, special permission items are short-term loans with different late fees. A courtesy overdue reminder will be sent. Failure to receive an overdue reminder, for whatever reason, does not remove the responsibility of the borrower for meeting each due date.

Overdues

For each regular item not returned or renewed within thirty (30) days of the due date, the library account will be blocked from check out, renewing the items online and/or requesting online, but there will be no money owed. Items can be renewed by bringing them to any Circulation Desk or calling Phone Renewal at (480) 965-2595. No fee will be assessed until the 61st day (students and staff) or the 91st day (faculty) after the due date. After that time a $10 non-refundable billing transaction fee and a replacement charge will be assessed. Only the replacement charge is cancelled when the item is returned. Once the fee has been paid, the item may be renewed.

An appeals process is available.  Appeals must be made within one year of billing.  See the Billing Appeal Procedure for more information.

Recalls

Items which are checked out may be requested by other borrowers at any time.  All items are subject to recall.  This policy applies all year long: breaks, sabbaticals, vacations, etc.  You will be notified of any recalls.  Recall of an item may shorten the original loan period. Items not returned by the Recall Due Date will be assessed a $10.00 fee and a replacement charge for each item.  Only the replacement charge will be cancelled when the item is returned. Recall late fines are strictly enforced.

Renewals

Items may be renewed as often as necessary, unless recalled by another borrower. Renewals may be done at any ASU Library by bringing the items to Circulation. Renewals may also be processed over the phone (480-965-2595) or over the Web by clicking on MY LIBRARY ACCOUNT and viewing your record. Phone renewal will not inform you of your new due date(s). You can view your own circulation account online or you may call 480-965-3605 to confirm phone renewals. Renewable Law Library items may be renewed two (2) times. Community Card borrowers may make up to two (2) renewals for each item. Certain items, e.g., reserve, media, microforms are not renewable. Refer to Renewal Policy for more information.

Community Cards

The University Libraries are open to all users.  An individual not affiliated with ASU who is an Arizona resident and meets certain age requirements, may borrow library items by purchasing a Community Card. Community Cards must be purchased at Hayden Library.  There is a non-refundable annual fee of $100.00 for the basic community card.  Borrowing privileges are not transferable.   Refer to the Community Card Loan Policy for more information.
