Library Express News

Place article requests through ILLiad: https://illiad.lib.asu.edu/illiad/Logon.html

  • Individualized Personal User Accounts
  • Electronic Delivery of Articles

As of January 16, 2007, all article requests need to be placed through ILLiad.

What is Library Express?

  • Library Express provides free on campus delivery of books and articles to all Tempe Campus Faculty and Academic Professionals.

  • Tempe Campus faculty and students may also use the on-campus book pull service.

  • Tempe Campus staff may use Library Express' fee-based service to have material pulled and delivered to them. Please call to set up an account.

Library Express is a Tempe Campus service.

Getting Books from the ASU Campuses:

You may place your own online request for books from any of the ASU Campus Libraries (i.e. Tempe, West, Polytechnic, Downtown, or the Remote Storage Building).

To request books owned by ASU Libraries:

  • Log in to your account using your ASURite ID. Your login will hold for the entire session.
  • Click the Search button.
  • Search for the item/s you want.
  • Click on the entry you wish to request.
  • Find and display the complete record for the title.
  • Click the Request button.
  • Choose a pick up location of Library Express, and click the Submit button.
  • The books you request will be delivered to you by Library Express.

Getting Articles from non-Tempe ASU Campuses:

Photocopy requests for articles located at the West, Polytechnic, or Downtown campus: use the ILLiad request form. Article requests for non-Tempe ASU Campuses are free of charge.

Getting Articles from the Tempe Campus:

Articles located in the ASU Tempe Campus Libraries' holdings are copied free of charge for Tempe Campus Faculty and Academic Professionals. There is a fee for this service for other Tempe Campus ASU Affiliates.

Where Can I Get My Materials Delivered?

Materials can be delivered to the requestor's Tempe campus departmental office. If delivery is not possible, due to the lack of an on campus delivery point, you may pick up your materials at the Interlibrary Loan/Library Express counter in Hayden Library.

ASU students with disabilities may have materials delivered to Disability Resources. See your Disability Resources Coordinator for details or speak with the University Libraries' Access for Disability Accommodations (ADA) staff.

How Long Does it Take?

Average turnaround time is 2-3 working days. Library Express is open Monday through Friday, exempting University observed holidays.

Caveats You Should Know About:

  • Library Express does not print off articles that are available online in electronic format.
  • Library Express does not deliver videos and DVDs. Due to their short check out period and the uncertainty of delivery schedules, you must pick those up at the Circulation Desk. Faculty can ensure availability of the items they need by requesting their items through Media Booking.
  • Library Express only supplies delivery to Faculty, Academic Professionals, and fee-based customers with money on account. Money cannot be collected at the time of delivery.
  • Large orders may take more than the normal two to three days to process.
  • Library Express is not Interlibrary Loan. Library Express handles materials owned by ASU.

Disability Resources and Library Express:

ASU Tempe Campus students who are registered with Disability Resources or disabled ASU employees who apply for the service may receive books at no charge. Article charges are $1.00 for the first 1-10 pages, plus $1.00 for each additional 1-10 pages per each individual article. Requests for articles held by a campus other than Tempe are free of charge.

ASU students with disabilities may have materials delivered to Disability Resources. See your Disability Resources Coordinator for details or speak with the University Libraries' Access for Disability Accommodations (ADA) staff.

Distance Education Students:

Good news for Tempe Campus Students not attending classes on campus; you can use Library Express. Please note:

  1. You can set up an account to pay for the service by calling and using your credit card.
  2. Library Express unfortunately cannot ship books to you. You may want to use your local public library's Interlibrary Loan service and have your books sent via that method.
  3. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you find something confusing. We want to make sure you get what you need!
  4. Library Express will not ship articles internationally.

If I Have To Pay, How Do I Set Up An Account?

You may visit our service desk or call our office and set up an account using a credit card. Please set up an account prior to submitting requests.

The fees are as follows:

  • 16-25 page articles cost $4.00
  • 26-35 page articles cost $5.00

  • Books cost $1.00 per book pulled and delivered.
  • We only deliver for fee-based users who have on-campus office addresses. We do not deliver to the dormitories.
  • Accounts must be opened with a minimum of $5.00
  • We do not provide refunds.
