In consultation with librarians, faculty, students and staff and guided by the new vision of Arizona State University, the Collections and Scholarly Communications Office (CSC) is responsible for the selection and licensing of materials and information to support educational programs and scholarly research of the New American University. CSC also advocates for enduring knowledge management policies and programs at ASU that contribute to a robust and sustainable system of scholarly communication. This includes, but is not limited to, broadening faculty and graduate student awareness of trends that threaten long-term sustainability of information, advocating for intellectual property policies in licenses that balance the rights of copyright owners and those of users and libraries in education settings, and advocating alternative publishing practices, such as the University Libraries Knowledge Network and publishing in open access journals. CSC, through Preservation Services, is also responsible for maintaining the ongoing usability and wellbeing of the ASU Libraries print, video, film, and other non-electronic collections.
