The primary purpose for the preservation of unique and historical material is its subsequent use by students, scholars and others. The focal point for the use of our holdings is the Luhrs Reading Room, named in honor of the Luhrs family's contributions to the history of Phoenix and Arizona. The Luhrs Reading Room provides indexes, guides, computer databases, information retrieval services and personal reference assistance to our researchers.

The Department of Archives and Special Collections office and the Arizona Collection, University Archives, Special Collections, the Benedict Visual Literacy Collection, the Child Drama Collection, and the Chicano Research Collection are located on level 4 of the Charles Trumbull Hayden Library. Regular semester hours are:
Luhrs Reading Room will be closed for remodeling on Saturdays June 14th, 21st, 28th and July 5th.
Saturday hours will resume July 12.
Located on level 2 of Hayden Library, the Labriola Center is open Monday through Friday from 9-5, except during intersessions. Labriola materials can be retrieved to the Luhrs Reading Room when Labriola is not open. We can be reached at (480) 965-6490.
The Architecture and Environmental Design (AED) Library houses special collections of primary source materials related to architecture, planning, interior design, and industrial design. Materials from the Archival Drawings and Solar Energy Collections are open to the public and available for scholarly use. Collections contain textual material, drawings, and photographs.
Photocopies, scans and photographs of materials in our collections are available for purchase. The Department may restrict or limit reproduction of its materials when they are endangered due to fragility or size. Fees for photocopying 8.5 x 11 materials are .10 per page, one page per copy and .25 cents per page for oversize materials. Publication of materials from our collections for commercial or academic uses requires advance written permission. The Department of Archives and Manuscripts accepts reference questions via electronic mail and facsimile.
