Access from Macintosh

Before you begin

Choose the operating system and location that best applies to you:


From an IT Computing Site or Classroom

The following are instructions for access to an Instructor Volume from a Mac in an IT computing site or classroom.

  1. Go to any Information Technology computing site or Mac classroom. Start up a Macintosh, and logon with your ASURITE UserID and password. If you have an ethernet-connected Macintosh on the ASU network, you can do this from your own Macintosh.
  2. Locate the Mac Instructor Volumes icon, which can be found in the dock at the bottom of the desktop.

  3. Once you click on the icon, a login dialog box will appear.
  4. Type in your Instructor Volume account UserID in the Name field.
  5. Tab to the Password field and enter your password (passwords are case sensitive).

  6. Click Connect.
  7. After you have successfully connected, you will see the Instructor Volumes icon mounted on the desktop.

  8. Double-click on this icon and browse to locate your Instructor Volume.
  9. To log off, drag the icon to the trash.

Note: Students will have access only to their specific instructor folder.

Note: It is not possible to apply disk space quotas to AppleShare networks. Please do not abuse this privilege by wasting the available disk space. Those who do so may see their account and instructor folder removed.

Be aware of copyright infringements. If you will be installing an application in your instructor folder for class instruction given on the Macintosh networks, you should have enough legal copies of a copyrighted application for as many as will use it simultaneously. You will also be unable to prevent the copying of your applications from your instructor folder on the network server.


From OS X or later Mac at home or a non-IT Mac

The following are instructions for access to an Instructor Volume from a OSX or later Mac at home or a non-IT Mac.

  1. From the Go menu select Connect to Server.
  2. Enter itinstructional.inre.asu.edu for the server address.
  3. Type in your Instructor Volume account UserID in the Name field.
  4. Tab to the Password field and enter your password (passwords are case sensitive).
  5. You will see the Instructor Volumes icon on the desktop.
  6. Double-click on this icon and browse to locate your Instructor Volume.
  7. To log off, drag the icon to the trash.

  1. From the Apple menu, select Chooser.

  2. Click on the AppleShare icon in the Chooser window.
  3. Click on the Server IP Address... button.
  4. Enter itinstructional.inre.asu.edu for the server address.
  5. Type in your Instructor Volume account UserID in the Name field.
  6. Tab to the Password field and enter your password (passwords are case sensitive).
  7. You will see the Instructor Volumes icon on the desktop
  8. Double-click on this icon and browse to locate your Instructor Volume.
  9. To log off, drag the icon to the trash.
