When: A semester or year-long program, September 1 - December 15 and/or January 1 - May 15.
Where: The Republic of Macedonia is located in the southernmost part of former Yugoslavia, where Ss Cyril and Methodius designed the alphabet that launched literacy in the Slavic world.
The University: The University of Ss. Kiril & Metodij (UKIM) was founded in 1943. It has a student body of approximately 25,000 students and is located in the capital city of Skopje.

Study Abroad at UKIM: Students take 8 credits per semester of intensive beginning, intermediate, or advanced Macedonian language training. The program also features 6 credits per semester in Balkan history and in Macedonian politics and society. Beginning with basic in-country "survival" techniques and leading up to contemporary issues in political and cultural life, the coursework features aspects of Macedonian history and culture, as well as analysis of contemporary institutions.
Eligibility Requirement: The program is open to all upper division and graduate students who have maintained a 2.75 GPA, although those students with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.75 can be given conditional acceptance. Non-ASU students are welcome to apply.
Cost: $4,300 per semester for tuition and fees and $1,600 per semester for room and board. Students who are classified as non-Arizona residents for tuition purposes are subject to a surcharge of approximately $1,100 per semester. Transportation to and from Skopje is not included. In addition to the two-semester program, students may attend the ASU Ohrid Practicum in August of each year. That practicum is run in conjunction with the Critical Languages Institute at ASU.
ASU Credit: During the semester abroad, students are registered at ASU and qualify for up to 14 hours per semester of ASU residence credit. Upon completion of the semester, the ASU course credit and grade equivalency of each course taken in Skopje will be assigned to the student's ASU transcript.
Application Process: Interested students should fill out an International Program Qualifying Application Packet, which is available through REESC or at the ASU International Programs Office. Application packets are due March 15 for the fall semester program and October 15 for the spring semester program. A $300 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of application.
Financial Aid: Most ASU scholarships, grants, and loans can be used to help pay program costs. Students should consult their local financial aid counselors. Students applying to "Study Abroad at UKIM" should consider joint application to the National Security Education Program (www.iie.org/nsep/)
