The event highlighted the fact that as both purveyors of knowledge and trainers of future job seekers, colleges and universities in the U.S. today must be increasingly nimble in their response to the mounting pressures of global competition for ambitious students, top researchers, and access to emerging industry leaders.
By necessity, the landscape of 21st century American higher education will look increasingly different from past models. As we heed President Obama’s state of the union message to out-innovate, out-perform and out-build, how do those charges help America’s institutions of higher learning maintain their status as the world’s leader in educational delivery, learning and performance? And how should today’s youth plan for college in a way that is entirely different than previous modes and methods?
