Goals:
The ASU Sailing Club strives to become a credible
competitive sailing program for sailors of all abilities by
having the proper equipment to allow sailors of any ability
to sail to their potential.
Background:
In January, 2006 The
Community Sailing Council of US SAILING
honored the ASU Sailing Club for having an outstanding
program for disabled sailors in 2005.
To be a competitive program for disabled sailing and intercollegiate sailing, the club needs to make some large capital expenditures.
Needed
Equipment:
Autohelm/Windlass System for the
Martin
16 ($7,200) for sailors with significant
disabilities to operate the steering and sail trim with
either a joystick or "sip and puff" control.
Four competition ready Club Flying Juniors ($10,000) to be a competitive collegiate sailing program.
Additional Martin 16 for match racing ($20,000). Two Martin 16s are needed for sailors to race against a boat of the same design to hone their racing skills to be prepared to race the Martin 16 in regional and national regattas.
