criticism by David William Foster
El ambiente nuestro examines in unprecedented depth homoerotic issues in the writing of such authors as John Rechy, Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales, Francisco Alarcón, Jaime Manrique, and Richard Rodríguez. David William Foster explores the important body of writing on these issues that began with John Rechy’s founding texts of Chicano narrative and continues today with more recent additions to the field such as Jaime Manrique’s Eminent Maricones.
David William Foster is Regents’ Professor of Spanish and Interdisciplinary Humanities at Arizona State University. He has published numerous scholarly works on contemporary Latin American narrative and theater, with an emphasis on Argentina. Recent publications include Queer Issues in Contemporary Latin American Cinema (2003) and Night Watch, his translation of La noche vigilada by Reinaldo Bragado Bretaña (Bilingual Press 1999).
