Welcome to the Center for Asian Research at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. The Center promotes Asian studies at ASU and fosters greater understanding of Asia through a wide variety of research and outreach activities including teacher training, curriculum development, scholarly conferences, public symposia, film series, and exhibitions. The Center for Asian Research is part of the the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

  • CAR Research Symposia: “Understanding Japanese through its Structure: How Linguistics can Contribute to Language Learning” by Dr. Wesley Mark Jacobsen, Professor of the Practice of the Japanese Language and Director of the Japanese Language Program, Harvard University on Monday, October 13, at 4:30 PM in CDS 13 (College of Design, South Building).
  • Colloquium: "Bangkok: Global Actor in a Misaligned National Government Framework" by Dr. Chuthatip Maneepong, CAR Visiting Scholar, and Dr. Douglas Webster, on Wednesday, October 15, at noon in West Hall 135.

  • ASU Chinese Language Flagship Partner Program
  • The Center for Asian Research is pleased to announce the receipt of The Language Flagship grant. The ASU program offers advanced Mandarin language learners an intensive two-year honors-level program to develop superior language skills while pursuing academic degrees in their major of choice.   • ASU partners with China’s Sichuan University to establish Confucius Institute in Tempe
    The Confucius Institute (CI) at Arizona State University was established in October, 2007 in partnership with the Office of Chinese Language Council International (HANBAN), and Sichuan University. The Institute seeks to promote Chinese language and culture studies in schools and to the general public in Arizona.
