Everyone needs a makeover once in a while
Welcome to the new “look” of the ASU Alumni Association’s monthly e-newsletter for Sun Devil alumni and friends. We’ve retooled our layout to make our publication a quick, fun read that gives you the maximum amount of ASU-related information for a minimal time investment.
We’d like your opinion on the new format. If you have a comment on how the new layout is working for you, or if you have suggestions for news and features for an upcoming edition of the e-newsletter, please e-mail us at phxadmin@asu.edu.
Enjoy the e-newsletter and keep in touch!

Bill Kavan, chair, ASU Alumni Association Board of Directors 2009-10
Tell us about your involvement with the Alumni Association's board of directors.
I have been involved with the alumni association as a volunteer or board member since graduation in 1992. I have served as chair of various committees, treasurer, chair-elect, and became chair this July. |
Which groups or activities were you most involved in at ASU? What did you gain from that involvement?Associated Students of ASU (ASASU), the Student Alumni Association, Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Order of Omega, the Interfraternity Council, and Greek Review Board. I was able to gain leadership experience, public speaking, meeting management, and interpersonal skills through these groups. I also gained a deep affinity and appreciation of ASU during my undergraduate years thanks to them.
What's your favorite university tradition? (e.g., whitewashing the A, singing the alma mater, etc.)
Oozeball – it was the first ASU event I attended in 1988. I vividly remember that day and remain friends with many people that I attended that event with.
Which ASU professor(s) made a lasting impression on you and why?
Dr. Stookey in the Political Science department. His Supreme Court class was the best class I took at ASU.
He was a professor who excited you about the subjects he taught – because he was truly excited about the topics himself. He left teaching to attend law school and then returned.
What are three “can’t-miss” ASU experiences every Sun Devil should participate in?
Climbing “A” Mountain, tailgating before a home football game and visiting the Hall of Fame at Sun Devil Stadium.
What are the benefits of giving back to ASU through your volunteer efforts?
The ability to learn about the exciting research being conducted at ASU, which helps broaden my horizons. It also gives me the ability to help a younger generation, provides great networking opportunities, and offers me the knowledge that I am helping to make ASU and Arizona a better place.
