Keep it “green” with the Alumni Association
Whether you’re excited this week about the official coming of spring, hope on the financial horizon, or the chance to contribute to a more sustainable environment, the Alumni Association has something for you in this issue of our monthly e-newsletter.
1. Contribute to a healthier natural environment by joining Sun Devil volunteers on a clean-up of Hayden Butte (“A” Mountain) in Tempe as part of ASU Cares Day March 21.

Alumni, staff and friends of Arizona State University will clean up the university’s beloved “A” Mountain on March 21, when they volunteer in conjunction with ASU CARES Day. This will mark the first time the ASU Alumni Association has spearheaded the ASU CARES Day event.

Sun Devil women’s networking continues at LaBocca on March 18
If you enjoyed last month’s fabulous Women in Business breakfast roundtable, you’ll want to attend the next Women in Business wine and networking event, 5:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, at La Bocca Pizzeria & Wine Bar, 699 S. Mill Ave., Tempe.

The event is free for members of the ASU Alumni Association and $10 for future members.

Nursing chapter kicks off mentoring program with movie-watching event
In an effort to strengthen the nursing community, the alumni chapter for the College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation is initiating a mentorship program between alumni and undergraduate nursing students. The chapter will kick off the program at its Celebrate Nursing Movie event at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 4, which will feature the movie “Sister Kenny.” To participate, contact Carol Rogers at carol.rogers@asu.edu.

Mix it up with ASU alums at April 15 Maroon & Gold networking event
The Alumni Association's Maroon & Gold Professionals network is a great opportunity to meet other alums and expand your circle of connections. The group meets next at the University Club on ASU’s Tempe campus at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 15. This gathering will also be the kick off of the University Club’s “Wine Down Wednesdays.”

Run alongside Pat Tillman this April
Want to honor the spirit of the late ASU football star Pat Tillman? Join thousands of others and participate in Pat’s Run, a 4.2 mile run/walk that celebrates Tillman’s life and honors his legacy of leadership and civic action. The run will take place in Tempe on Saturday, April 18.

Smart retirement strategies to be discussed at April 29 seminar
It’s essential for Sun Devils of every age to plan wisely for their financial future. Members of the ASU Alumni Association are invited to a special free presentation on retirement-focused investment planning at 5 p.m., April 29. The event will feature financial expert Gail Buckner, host of “Fox on Money” and anchor for “This Morning’s Business” on CNBC, as well as two-time ASU alumnus Robert J. Kozlowski ’75 B.S., ’78, M.B.A. from Franklin Templeton Investments.

Make those memories of your ASU days shine all over again at the Golden Reunion, slated for May 13-14. The event is a celebration for the university class celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Economy, energy headline topics of latest ASU-Southwest Poll
Economic forecasts are dismal, yet many Southwesterners in Arizona, Nevada, Texas and New Mexico are optimistic that conditions in the United States will improve over the next year, according to the most recent Arizona State University-Southwest Poll.
Younger respondents expect improvement this year


 

Top science minds gather for 'origins' symposium
A public symposium that will convene some of the greatest minds in science, including six Nobel Laureates, to discuss the origins of everything, from the universe to humanity, will be held Monday, April 6, in ASU Gammage.

Both ASU basketball teams invited to “March Madness”
It’s bracket time in college basketball land, and both ASU’s men’s and women’s teams have been invited to the NCAA Division I tournament! You can track the Sun Devils teams’ progress during the tournaments at the NCAA men’s and women’s sites, and you can get Sun Devil-centric updates via ASU’s Athletics Department Web site.
For information on ticket availability at the tournaments, call the athletics ticket office at 480-727-7000.

Alumni invited to enjoy “fever pitch” of Sun Devil softball April 19
Dues-paying members of the ASU Alumni Association can receive up to four complimentary tickets to watch the ASU women’s softball team take on the Stanford Cardinal squad on April 19. The Sun Devils are the defending collegiate champions, having won the College World Series in 2008.

Harden named Pac-10 Player of the Year
ASU sophomore guard James Harden has been named the 2008-09 Pac-10 Men's Basketball Player of the Year, becoming the third Sun Devil to win the honor. Harden joins Eddie House (2000) and Ike Diogu (2005).
