The ASU Alumni Association will host Sun Devil Send Offs at many locations around the country for incoming freshmen this summer. Hosted by local ASU alumni families, the events help ensure a successful beginning to a student’s lifelong ASU experience.

“Physics of Star Trek” author to join ASU “origins” initiative
Lawrence Krauss, author of the popular science tome “The Physics of Star Trek” and a theoretical physicist and cosmologist whose research is so broad that it covers science from the beginning of the universe to the end of the universe, will join Arizona State University in August to assume a leadership role in an emerging research and educational initiative on “origins.”

New degree program offers insight on technology, society
Students in Arizona interested in studying the role that science and technology have on societies around the world will have a new avenue of study available to them this fall, as the School of Applied Arts & Sciences at ASU’s Polytechnic campus is rolling out a bachelor of science degree in science, technology and society.

ASU institute announces “Top 10 new species” list
The International Institute for Species Exploration at Arizona State University and an international committee of taxonomists – scientists responsible for species exploration and classification – unveiled May 23 the world's top 10 new species described in 2007.

Berman appointed College of Law dean
A scholar with a vision for the future of legal education, Paul Schiff Berman, has been appointed dean of the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. Currently the Jesse Root Professor of Law at the University of Connecticut School of Law, Berman has focused his scholarly work on how globalization affects the intersection of cyberspace law, international law, civil procedure and the cultural analysis of law.

ASU junior golfer Azahara Munoz made her first career tournament win an important one as she shot a 1-under 287 to claim the NCAA individual championship at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course on May 23.

ASU’s Katie Burkhart hurled a four-hitter, and Sun Devils slugger Kaitlin Cochran notched a three-run homer as the softball squad earned its first NCAA Women’s College World Series title with an 11-0 romp over Texas A&M in Oklahoma City June 3.
